Mas Igneus, Costers De Mas Igneus 2001 750Ml
715071 Review by: Robert Parker
Wine Advocate: Issue 145, February 2003
Rating: 94 points
Drink now - 2020

The outrageously delicious 2001 Costers de Mas Igneus Old Vines is fashioned from the winery's six oldest parcels (planted between 1901-1920). A blend of 65% Grenache and 35% Carignan aged one year in new French oak, it is bottled without fining or filtering. It boasts an opaque purple color as well as a beautiful perfume of black raspberry liqueur, cassis, minerals, kirsch, and flowers, superb purity, a lush, layered texture, and a tremendously persistent finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. Moderately high tannin in the finish suggests aging of 3-5 years will bring even more attention to this impressively endowed wine. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020. This is an outstanding value.

Drink now - 2009

This is almost too easy to like. Lush blueberry jam and piecrust notes are rich and sweet, enrobed in a plush texture and lingering sweetly on the vanilla-scented finish. It may not satisfy the traditionalists, but the pleasure is hard to deny. Drink now through 2009. 310 cases made.

Alvaro Palacios, L'Ermita 2004 750Ml
723396 Review by: Jay Miller
Wine Advocate: Issue 169, February 2007
Rating: 98 points
Drink 2007 - 2027

2004 was a superb vintage in Priorat and the three entries from Alvaro Palacios are stunning. The 2004 L'Ermita is harvested from a 5 acre parcel of 70-year-old head-pruned vines of which 85% is Grenache, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Carignan aged in 100% new French oak. The color is purple/black and the super-expressive nose offers toast, minerals, kirsch, and blackberry. The wine is full-bodied and seamless with complex flavors and the tannin totally concealed. The finish is very long and pure in this powerful yet elegant offering. It should drink splendidly for 15-20 years.

Perfumed and delicate, yet deep and powerful. Floral and berry aromas give way to black cherry, mineral and cocoa flavors, and the texture is firm yet tender. This red shows a firm structure and excellent focus. Tight, so decant. Best from 2008 through 2015.

Torres, Grans Muralles 2001 750Ml
581637 Review by: Jay Miller
Wine Advocate: Issue 175, February 2008
Rating: 93 points
Drink by: N/A

The 2001 Grans Muralles is a blend of Monastrell, Garnacha, Garro, Samso, and Carinena sourced from a single vineyard and aged for 18 months in new French oak. Deep crimson-colored, it has an alluring perfume of cedar, tobacco, saddle leather, spice box, mineral, blueberry, and black cherry. This leads to an elegant, ripe, suave wine with expressive, incipiently complex flavors, and a very long finish. This is impressive!

826099 Review by: Jay Miller
Wine Advocate: Issue 169, February 2007

From the same team that brings you the Central Coast's superb Sea Smoke Pinot Noirs comes Melis, a splendid example of what can be achieved in Priorat. The 2004 Melis, from an outstanding vintage, is a blend of 63% Grenache, 16% Carignan, 14% Syrah, and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon. It was aged for 15 months in several sizes of 100% new Burgundian oak before being bottled without fining or filtration. Purple-colored, it exhibits sweet aromas of vanilla spice, toast, mineral, wild blueberry and blackberry. Full-bodied (a nicely concealed 15.5% alcohol) with a velvety palate-feel, layers of opulent black fruit flavors, ripe tannins, and a long, pure finish, this large-scaled wine can be enjoyed now and over the next 15-20 years.

101048 Review by: Robert Parker
Wine Advocate: Issue 159, June 2005
Rating: 92 points

The stunning 2003 Clos Figueres, a blend of Grenache, Carignan, Merlot, and small dosages of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, is an elegant, beautifully knit, dense ruby/purple-hued effort displaying a sweet perfume of crushed rocks intermixed with white flowers, blue and black fruits, and a subtle touch of wood.
