Ghizzano was the first producer, in the mid-1980’s, to make serious wine in the province of Pisa. Ginevra Pesciolini now has more company, but the estate remains a leader in the zone, as demonstrated by the 2001 Nambrot, a dark ruby with much red and black berry fruit and smoky, spicy oak on the nose, a muscular medium body, fine balance, and attractive mineral and vanilla notes on the finish. Not quite as rich as the 1999, it compensates with its finesse and poise.
