The Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is more limited in availability than the Alexander Valley, but there are now close to 33,000 cases being produced. The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (32,000 cases of a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot) may turn out to be the finest since the mid-1990s. A big, sweet nose of creme de cassis, licorice, smoke, hickory barbecue spices, and cherries jumps from the glass of this dark plum/ruby/purple-colored wine. Expansive, full-bodied, and voluptuous with opulent texture, this is a juicy, fleshy Cabernet Sauvignon.
